Delhi has always grabbed the attention of the tourists from all over the world for many good reasons. It is one of the most frequently visited destinations. Whether you are coming here for a budget holiday or to experience the best luxuries of the world, Delhi will never disappoint you. There are many world famous monuments that are the major attraction of the city. But Delhi is much more beyond the famous historical monuments. The versatility of this city can surprise you multiple times.
Here, we have tried to sort out a list of some of the surprises in Delhi which surely will make your trip more exciting and you won’t be able to resist the fun of indulging in these hidden surprises of the city.

Shopping Hub
Delhi is a Mecca for shoppers. There are many high rising malls in the city which have all the branded stores and you can buy almost everything you long for. But then branded stores are available all over the world. Why should anybody come all the way to Delhi to spend money on shopping?? The answer is very simple. Besides branded shopping which is a class icon, Delhi is a hub of budget shopping. If you are looking for quality stuff that doesn’t come along with big tag, you must visit the crowded narrow lanes of Chandani Chowk Market in Old Delhi. You can find cloths, decoration items, natural perfumes, precious stones and much more at very cheap prices.
Lajpat Nagar and Sarojini Nagar Markets are famous for variety of cloths available at stealing prices. In these markets you can choose from a wide range of options available for both Indian and Western cloth. You will also find some good accessories and footwear to match your style. For a bit classy shopping visit Dilli Haat. All kinds of handicraft items famous in India can be found here. There are stalls dedicated to different states of India and all handmade items famous for that particular state can be found here. Its vibrant and colourful look energises you. Before visiting these markets you must learn some tactics of bargaining which will help you in saving money.

Left alone monuments
Delhi is a city of monuments. There are only few of them that have become famous and there are many that stand in isolation.
These monuments like Mutiny Memorial, Maqbara Paik, Turkman Gate, "Bara Lao Ka Gumbad' and the Baradari at Vasant Vihar, Gol Gumbad etc. give an insight to the history of the city.
These monuments and many others like them are hidden treasures of the city which have so far not been explored by the travellers. While enhancing your knowledge about the glorious past of the city, you can also enjoy peace and solace for some time in this otherwise busy city.

Paradise for Food
One of the best reasons to visit Delhi is the delicious food available here. You can try the authentic cuisines from all over the world in the famous hotels and restaurants.
But if you really want to indulge in riot of taste, you will have to forget about the style, ambience and bland food of the five star hotels. Paranthe Wali Gali in Chandani Chowk provides some of the lip smacking local cuisine. Your trip to Delhi will remain incomplete without savouring on ‘dilli ki chaat,’ ‘tikkis’, ‘chole Bhature’ ‘lassi’ and much more. The best of these items can be enjoyed at the shop of a local vendor at UPSC office near India Gate. Bangali Market, the oldest and most popular market in the city is yet another place to taste the delicacies of India.
Do not worry much about the hygiene. The ‘street foods of India’ are served on the streets but are made hygienically. The only caution you must take is having them in lesser quantity as they are spicy and you might not be able to digest them very quickly.

Religious Respite
End your day at a peaceful note by listening to some soothing music at the Dargah of Hazrat Nizzamuddin Auliya or Dargah of Baba MatkaPeer.
You can enjoy some heart touching quwaalis sung in the praise of Allah (God almighty) at these places. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and ISKON Temple are other religious places where you can spend some quality time with good music.
